Have you ever wondered how America became such a successful country? Both Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs were a huge part of America's success. Although they were oppressed badly many times becuase of who they were and what they believed in, they made a stand for what they thought was right. Because Mary Dyer was a Quaker, she had been badly oppressed by other Puritans who have accussed her of preeching blasphemy. Harriet Jacobs was oppressed becuase she was a slave and a woman at the same time. That meant that she was not only powerless, but was also vulnerable to any sexual abuse by their masters. In those times, some, but not all men looked at women as subordinates and only thought they lived to serve men. Both women made an effort to fight back against intolerance even though oppression slowed them down. They were true heroes.

Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are two different person in two different worlds, but they both were vivid examples of being discriminated against for who they are. Mary Dyer was a white woman but was oppressed by her religion and Harriet Jacobs was a black woman and was extremely discriminated because she was a slave. Yet, they didn't give up fighting back their freedom just because they were being oppressed against. Instead, they reached their goal and set a good example for other people that didn't have the freedom that they supposed to have.

Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are vivid examples of how Quakers and slaves were oppressed and discriminated against just because of who they are. Their discrimination and oppression was proved that it was women who were mostly oppressed often. In the northern states of America, groups like the Quakers were oppressed because of causing/saying blasphemy. Even though Quakers had suffered oppression, women in that group had suffered just as much. Ever since religious intolerance had been brought upon that group, it made it harder for Mary Dyer to help others and spread the idea of religious freedom. In the southern states, slavery had started and gone on with discrimination at hand. Women in bondage suffered more from their masters abusing than men from the torture. Ever since slavery happened and brought upon Harriet Jacobs, intolerance and discrimination had taken over in many forms. Harriet Jacobs was sexually abused by her master, but she couldn’t do anything about it because she didn’t have any power. What Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs experienced is a devastating event. Yet they fought back oppression with courageousness, and self-confidence for religious freedom and rights of others (no slavery). Today, many people may not know their names and events that happened in the past that got us equal rights, but we may know other people that had relatives/ancestors that witnessed them. With Mary Dyer’s sacrifice, there would be religious freedom with the help of others. With Harriet Jacob’s book, we could remember some of the events that happened in that time and to women slaves.

America is supposedly the best country in the world. But its history is the worst. Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are two perfect vivid examples of how people exspecially women, were oppressed and discriminated in America. These people had to struggle against oppression and discrimination throughout their whole life.

Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are vivid examples of how individuals or groups being oppressed, discriminated and intolerant against just because of who they are. Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs gets more oppression within their group because they were womens. Althought the declaration of independence say that "everyone is created equal" but it is not really true, Mary Dyer forces religious intolerant during the 1600s in Boston and Harriet Jacobs forces the cruelly destiny of slavery in 1800s in the South. Their oppression is not only because of Quaker and slavery, but also because of their gender. So the experiences and lives of Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are examples of two brave womens fighting against their oppression, rights and freedom. Even today, womens still have not treated equally because people believes that mens do better than women but Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs proves to us that women can do better than mens. And that we should get the equal rights as men.

In history, people like Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs has been oppressed and descriminated against just because of who they are. Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs were from different time periods but were still descriminated. Mary Dyer was from the 1600s and Jacobs was frmo the 1800s. Both were also from different places, one in Massachusetts, one at the South. Everyone was suppose to be equal or at least have equal rights but slaves were a big exclusion. Others with heresy religion is also excluded. Dyer and Jacobs were both discriminated because they were women and of their skin color.
