Final's thesis paragraph « Thread Started on Nov 1, 2003, 9:25pm »
In Course of American History, there were many individuals and groups that have been feared or discriminated against simply because of who they were and their struggles against these intolerance and oppression has strongly affected America today. Racism, Sexism, and religious persecution were examples of these oppressions that were later fought by different race and gender. Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs were vivid examples of Sexism because they were mere women. Mary Dyer struggled through Religious Persecution but later died ending it. Harriet Jacobs fought against slavery and racism and was freed because of it. Chinese immigrants faced racism too and were known as the Chinaman with the queues. These oppressions are still fought today because of the lack of knowledge we have of each other.

Discrimination between groups or individuals happens all over the world including the ¡§free country", also known as America. Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs, and the Chinese Immigrants were vivid examples of being oppressed because of who they are. All the oppressions against them happened in America. Mary Dyer was discriminated for religious intolerance, while Harriet Jacobs face the cruel reality of slavery, and the Chinese Immigrants were oppressed by their appearance and different ways of life. Yet, even though they might face a lot of discriminations, they overcome their obstacles and struggled against intolerance and oppression.

The Chinese have been discriminated since the 1800’s by white people. They were discriminated terribly during the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. They were popular when there were only 3 Chinese in America, but when more started coming, the Chinese began to be discriminated against. The Americans thought that the Chinese were stealing the jobs, even though the Chinese had the worst jobs that the Americans didn’t even want. Industrialists preferred Chinese workers over white workers, and for that the white workers hated Chinese people.

In the course of American history, many people were discriminated because of who they are and also because of what they believed in. They were discriminated and oppressed mainly because of sexism, racism, etc... For example, there was Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs, and also Chinese women who were discriminated because of sexism. They were all women, so they were somehow looked down at. There was also racism because Mary Dyer is a Quaker, when Harriet Jacobs is a slave and when Chinese women are just Chinese. Even though they were discriminated badly, they didn't give up and continued doing what they believe in. By not giving up and also fighting back, they achieved what they were aiming at. They risked even their lives trying to help themselves and people like them. They are people worth respecting and following for there to be a peaceful world.

In the course of American history, there were many indivisuals trying to fight for what they believed in and in return they got discriminated. Each and everyone of them fought back in many ways to gain respect for themselves and others. They were each oppressed because of their gender and their race. The Chinese were examples of discrimination because of how they looked and how they struggle to make a living in America. They were just looking for an opportunity to make a good living for their familys. Also Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs, and Nate Turner worked hard and faced many obstacles just to get their freedom. They all made a lot of sacrifices. They each had their reasons of doing what they thought was right but faced many consequences while doing so. But what they did changed the world today.

Did you know that America was never a perfect country? Although the history of America has seem to change overtime into a better society, intolerance still wanders although intolerance still happens here in America, America is a much better country today than compared to two hundred to four hundred years ago. Much discrimination had been acted upon because of a certain person's race or beliefs. A good example of a person being oppressed because of what they believed in was the courageous Quaker, Mary Dyer. Although she was a Puritan and that was the majority race, she believed differently in what most others believed in. She believed that anyone could communicate to god withot the need of a minister. Harriet Jacobs was a slave woman who had been oppressed greatly because of her race and gender. The Chinese Immigrants who had come to America in hope for making money to support their families with had been discriminated and beaten/killed because of how differnetly they acted from the whites.

In the course of American history, discrimination is a problem. In the Mary Dyer readings and the Harriet Jacobs relate to the Chinese Immigrants’ stories because of discrimination and other social issues between them and others. All of the three groups have faced different kinds of discrimination but they all also have some big social issues that they all have gone through in common.

help read and tell me what to do. In the course of American history, individuals and groups have been feared discriminated against simply because of whom they are, and these individuals and groups have struggled against intolerance and oppression. Mary Dyer was an individual that was discriminated because of what she and a group of people believe in. Harriet Jacobs was also discriminated because of her race and sex. The Chinese come to America to live a better life but the government and the other people in America were racist to them because of the government and the people that are just plain intolerant. Mary dyer is an example of how individuals and groups have been discriminated against because of who they are. Mary Dyer was a Quaker and the puritans who were oppressed and discriminated themselves, oppressed and discriminated the Quakers. When she decided to spoke out what she feels they banished her and she had to move on. Harriet Jacobs was discriminated against because of her race, color, and because she didn’t have any rights. She was a black person and that was the wrong time to be black. She had to run away to save her but it still didn’t help. At the time when everyone in power was against you, you couldn’t win. Mary Dyer and Harriet Jacobs are individuals that were discriminated against but the Chinese were a group of people living in intolerance. The government was even against the Chinese; they created laws to oppress and discriminated them.

In the course of American history, there has been many groups and individuals that have been feared and discriminated against just because of who they are. Lots of immigrants come to America, the land of opportunity and freedom searching for what was promised. Instead they found themselves trapped by Americans who disliked them. For example, Harriet Jacobs, a slave who was sexually harassed and was oppressed because of her gender. Mary Dyer was another who was oppressed because of sexism and religious persecution. She wanted to speak out and repeal the law of executing Quakers but was thrown to jail several times. The Chinese got blamed for every problems the Westerners had. The Americans were blaming them for stealing their jobs because of them accepting lower wages. But still, they fought back and faced their problems. These problems still exist and we should overcome them just like Jacobs, Dyers and the Chinese.

In the course of human history many groups had been discriminated against for who and what they were. Most victims of discrimination were different in the eyes of a larger group. Also most discrimination happens between groups of race or religion. The group that gets discriminated against is weaker and smaller population group and the more powerful and greater population discriminate the smaller group. Also discrimination also happens to immigrants that come to a new land. But when ever there is discrimination you can count on a person that will rebel for their group.

In the course of American history, Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs and the Chinese immigrants are vivid examples of how individuals and groups have been feared or discriminated against simply because of who they are and how have they struggled against intolerance and oppression. Their discrimination and oppression were come from racism, sexism and discrimination. Religious intolerance during the 1600s against the Quakers in Boston, the cruelly life of slavery in the South in 1800s and the forbade against Chinese immigrants in the late 1800s are sad things that happened in United States, the place where everyone is created equal. The experiences and lives of Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs and the Chinese immigrants are examples of how individuals and groups are struggle against oppression and fight for their civil rights and freedom. Even today, the injustices of sexism, racism and discrimination still exist.
