All right people look closely at the participants, processes, and circumstances.

This is really messed up, look at how the artist rendered the Chinese men!

Read the proclamation!

This visual is a clear cut example of government sanctioned violence, discrimination, and oppression against the Chinese. Is it any wonder that regular citizens thought the Chinese "dirty" and something that must be washed away from California if they saw/read an advertisement like this one?

Makes me wonder about how advertisements might be working today to push people to believe certain things about the world.

o god, that's really mean. I don't think this just because im chinese. Any person of a certain culture would look bad like this... :'(

They make the chinese person look bad. Sort of like a demon related to Laurance Yep. The Chinese man is frowning like a monster would

i can't believe they even use Uncle Sam, a symbol of our country to make him turn racist and kick the Chinese immigrants out of the US. But the propaganda is effective because of the well know symbol of Uncle Sam.

oh we saw this cartoon in history class. The chinese in there were oppressed and discriminated by uncle sam makes people know that America didn't welcomed chinese. It's not fair and evil to the chinese because that had did nothing, they used their own hands to work for a better life for theirself it's really hard for them already and now they had to suffer more hard things that come toward them. It's just not fair. What the chinese wanted is just a better life, there's nothing wrong with it. :'(

it's racist and non racist at the same time
it's racist because it makes the Chinese people look ugly because the pictures has them looking like shrews and evil aliens
it's not racist because it's supposed to be advertising for "magic washer"
i think it's more racist than it is non-racist
the letter of the magic washer aren't really noticable. the makers probably purposely did that to make chinese people look bad

Yo. I remember seeing this political cartoon in Mr. G's class. This advertisement is F**ked up. Chinese people seeing this would want to set Uncle Sam on fire. It makes Chinese people look bad. >:(

PS. I wish I could throw coal at the maker of this advertisement. Or maybe set them on fire. That makes me feel much better.

the participants are chinese people and uncle sam

the process is that uncle sam is kicking the chinese.. and the chinese are like falling down the mountain

circumstances: this picture is clearly agaist chinese. It said "the chinese must go" and it portray the chinese in a bad way. And part was true abot how they were washeer who open laundares.. but then wasn't it that the whites did't want to do these effeminated jobs themselves?
and using uncle sam in the picture adds more discrmination to it...it's saying like america dont want the chiense to be here

this picture is messed up. this picture make America look like a bad country because it's using uncle sam the symbol of Americans. Uncle sam is kicking this chinese men and the chinese men looks like a alien becasue of his face. This picture is against chinese because the can uncle sam is holding says magic washer and i think it's use to wash away chinese people in America and on the bottom it says chinese must go. And in the background the sun is smiling like it is agreeing with uncle sam kicking the Chinese out of Ameica.

The participants in this picture are Uncle Sam and a few chinese immigrants

Using prior knowledge, i know that the Chinese washed their own clothes and did laundry for others for money. Knowing this and seeing the bottle that Uncle Sam is holding, i think they are trying to clean out the Chinese immigrants. Uncle Sam represents the Americans and this is cartoon is really showing racism towards the Chinese. Uncle Sam is also holding a proclamation, and i think this meant that the government are helping the white and excluding the Chinese immigrants too. Also, they made the Chinese immigrants look so small and Uncle Sam so big. This probably meant that America is so much more bigger and more superior unlike the no good Chinese guys

I think that this is very sad no matter who was being discriminated against in this Political Cartoon. It is racist and it clears a view on how the U.S. was like bvack then.

i agree with everyone, they made the whites look so powerful and the chinese as garbage because Uncle Sam is kicking them out. Also the way that Uncle Sam dressed is like more nicer than the Chinese. I thought that America was full of freedom and hope for everyone but it just turned out to be the another worst place to be.
